Waxing on Dusty Dreams

I got home this afternoon and looked up to see part of the shingles on my roof just blowing back like a tarp or something. I didn't realize the wind had been that strong today. I also had a piece of siding peeled back on the other side of my house. Stuff like that used to really get my blood pressure up but not that much anymore (I take medication). I was able to snap the siding back in and nail down the shingles...nothing like these poor people in the above picture. It got me to thinking though and kind of drove home a thought I had this weekend.
Becky and I went away for the weekend and drove past some pretty incredible homes...and I was impressed by a few of them but I kept thinking...dust, just dust. Oh, not that I would not mind residing in some of that dust but it is still just dust. It just does not matter in the big scheme of things. When Jesus was on this earth, He could have lived ANYWHERE He wanted and He chose nowhere. Once when a man said that he would follow Christ anywhere, the Lord wanted him to know that He was homeless....Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” (Matthew 8:20)
Jesus just did not seem concerned with the things that occupy most of our time. When He stood before Pilate, His very life on the line, He said "My Kingdom is not of this world."
Nice homes are tempting but even if they withstand all the strong winds of a lifetime, they are temporary dwellings at best. Scripture says that everything we see will pass away, but the word of God and those who believe and do the will of the Father will live forever in a place far beyond any earthly home, mansion or castle.
Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. (2 Peter 3:11-13)

That was good.
I had to catch up on the Waxings.
I'm thankful we don't have too much butt dust.
